La Raíz is a group exhibition celebrating Latine cultural pride and identity in the U.S. The show brings together five Bay Area artists. Victor Reyes, Héctor Muñoz-Guzmán, Esteban Raheem Abdul Raheem Samayoa, Fernanda Martinez, and Miguel Arzabe
Victor Reyes is a Mexican American Artist and Muralist based in San Francisco. He got his start in the Los Angeles graffiti scene before moving north, where he became an active member of the Mission District's mural community. His work is found throughout the city, it features bold overlapping layers that blend screenprinting techniques with freehand line drawing.
Fernanda Martinez is a studio artist and muralist based in Oakland, California, originally from Mexico City. She creates vibrant and dynamic abstract art using imagery from her memory and experiences in nature. She uses organic forms and shapes with warm earth tones and moss like greenery color palettes to create her pieces.
Héctor Muñoz-Guzmán is a first-generation Mexican-American painter and illustrator from South Berkeley. Drawing inspiration from Mexican artists, revolutionaries, and cultural icons, he blends his traditional Mexican heritage with his experience as a first-generation artist in the U.S. His work draws on family photographs, Bay Area community life, and working-class stories to create powerful imagery.
Miguel Arzabe is a first-generation Bolivian-American artist based in Oakland, California. His art is rooted in family stories and the weaving traditions of Oruro, Bolivia, where the Aymara and Quechua peoples have been creating textiles for centuries. Miguel reimages these patterns and techniques by cutting and intertwining strips of canvas to create his works.
Esteban Raheem Abdul Raheem Samayoa is a Mexican-Guatemalan based in Oakland, CA. He is a contemporary artist whose works are a beautiful blend of personal history, cultural heritage and bold visual storytelling. Drawing from his Oakland/Bay Area community and Central Valley childhood. Esteban's paintings are captivating imagery into his life.
