IAN JAMES

My artwork uses sculpted leather and abstraction to explore various themes and my life experiences. As a leather craftsman, most of my work focuses on functional bags and accessories, and my designs are quite angular and rigid. With sculpted art, I am able to explore more amorphous and relaxed forms while incorporating movement through weaving and hand-stitching. 

This group of wall hangings is titled “Leaning Into Fear” and explores embracing what scares us. Recently, I have been growing both personally and professionally, and with growth often comes change. Change can be a scary thing to face, and these works explore embracing fear, the unknown, and accepting uncertainty.
